Gum Disease Prevention & Treatment Tarzana, CA
As dental professionals, we are constantly impressed by new materials, technologies, and approaches to treatment. One thing that hasn’t and will probably never change is the need for preventive dentistry as the first line of defense against oral disease.
Dr. Nargiz I. Zadeh and her skilled dental team make it as convenient as possible for our patients to achieve and maintain excellent oral health. With preventive dental exams and teeth cleanings as a foundation, we can help you avoid cavities and gingivitis that plague your oral health and diminish your quality of life.
The Importance of Prevention

We offer a wealth of services and treatments if you experience a dental problem; however, it is always better for you and your oral health if they don’t occur at all.
In keeping with the American Dental Association, we recommend comprehensive exams with Dr. Zadeh every six months. This frequency is perfect for monitoring your oral health and providing prompt treatment if needed.
Teeth cleanings at our Tarzana dental office are also crucial. Even if you practice excellent oral hygiene at home, there are places on your teeth that your brush and floss can’t reach. Routine cleanings with your hygienist work hand in hand with your own efforts to ensure the cleanest and healthiest of smiles.
Expert Treatment for Gum Disease
With all your obligations, it can feel like a chore to make time from in your busy schedule for these routine dental appointments. But of all the services you receive, these are the most crucial.
The more we learn about periodontal disease, the more vital the need for prevention and treatment becomes. Your mouth is the gateway to your body, and it’s been shown that chronic gum disease contributes to diabetes, heart and lung disease
Gingivitis Treatment
Periodontal disease occurs when plaque and tartar build-up causes an infection between your teeth and gums. The early stage of gum disease is called gingivitis and can typically be reversed without any damage. Our hygienist will provide thorough professional cleaning and brushing and flossing instructions so you can maintain excellent gum health at home.
You may notice symptoms such as bleeding gums or bad breath, or you may be asymptomatic. That fact makes routine teeth cleanings with your hygienist so crucial; you may not know you have a gum infection, but your hygienist will and can treat you accordingly.
Advanced Gum Disease Treatment
Untreated gingivitis can easily transition to an advanced gum disease called periodontitis. Treatment at this stage is critical because the infection attacks the bone that holds your teeth in place, putting you in jeopardy of tooth loss. We can treat periodontitis, but once the bone is gone, it’s gone for good.
At our Tarzana dental office, we offer non-surgical periodontal therapy called scaling and root planning. This procedure removes all the plaque and tartar from your teeth and smooths root surfaces to help prevent further infections.
After your deep cleaning procedure, we offer a complimentary six-week reevaluation with one of our hygienists to monitor your gum health.
Schedule Your Next Teeth Cleaning Appointment
Even if you aren't experiencing noticeable gum disease symptoms like bleeding, swollen, or tender gums, you may still have periodontal disease. The only way to know for sure if your gums are healthy is by scheduling an appointment so our dentist and hygienist can take a look. Please call us at (818) 456-0039 to get started.
A Testimonial From Richard, Dr. Nargiz I. Zadeh's Patient in Tarzana, CA
I NEVER thought that I would write a review in which I say "It's a pleasure to go to the dentist." But here goes -- a visit to Dr. Zadeh's office is a pleasure!
So what are the underlying facts? It's a combination of a welcoming environment and a genuine friendliness that extends from the appointment reminder calls from Debbie and her welcome upon arrival at the office, to all staff, including Dr. Zadeh.
Together with the welcoming vibe (and excellent music playlist), Dr. Zadeh displays an authentic interest in her patients' lives and offers a caring disposition (she asked several times during a recent procedure "Are you okay" and "Doing okay?"). And when it comes to her technical expertise, she has "the touch." I had a filling yesterday, and didn't feel the needle when she numbed me up. Beyond that, the general health of my teeth and gums has improved under her care over the last year-plus, and that included some no-pressure suggestions from her about how I might better care for things in-between visits.
(Add to that, it's a low pressure office...no attempt to "upsell" me on products and procedures . There is nothing more uncomfortable than to have a health care provider arrogantly tell you that you might "NEED" something that's going to pay for his/her kid's college education.)
I am comfortable offering an unconditional recommendation of Dr. Zadeh's dental office!
Frequently Asked Questions
In the early stages of infection, treatment for a gum infection can vary from better at-home hygiene to more frequent hygiene visits. Moderate infections require a deeper cleaning in combination with regular hygiene. In advanced stages, a Periodontist, or gum specialist, needs to intervene with surgical or laser treatment.
Common symptoms include red gums, bleeding gums while brushing or flossing, bad breath, and loose teeth.
No, but that could be a sign of improvement. Even though your gums may not bleed anymore, there may be extensive bone loss that can’t be reversed. In such cases, the condition needs to be adequately maintained so it does not progress.
Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. That statement speaks for itself.

Intraoral Cameras
It is much easier to become invested in your own oral health when you understand what your needs are. We use intraoral cameras during your dental exams because they allow you to visualize an issue instead of being told what it is.
This small handheld digital camera illuminates the inside of your mouth and delivers real-time images to your chairside monitor. You can follow along as Dr. Zadeh moves the camera, points out areas of concern, and explains why she recommends treatment.
We can save intraoral images to your patient record so they are accessible for future reference or to send to specialists and insurance companies as needed.
